Thale Noi Waterfowl Reserve
Thale Noi Lake, in the southern province of Phatthalung, is an important waterfowl reserve home to more than 180 resident and migratory bird species.
The day begins early, with a short drive to a nearby viewpoint where you can sip a local coffee as the sun rises over the lake.
From here, you look out across lotus flowers and bulrushes, scanning the water for birdlife as the light slowly shifts.
Scattered across the lake are traditional stilted fishing platforms, known locally as yor yak, adding a strong sense of place to this quiet, atmospheric landscape.
