Highlights of East India
Contrasts of Kolkata, the waterways of the Sunderbans, the Buddhist culture of Sikkim and the mighty Himalayas in one incredible journey.
Perched on the banks of the River Rungeet on a sloping hillside, Glenburn Tea Estate is a haven in the Darjeeling region with stunning views of the towering Kanchenjunga mountains. The Glenburn family make every effort to get involved on-site (if desired!), sharing conversations during meals and accompanying guests on walks and activities. Expect to feel well looked after and like you’re at home.
The owners have worked hard to devise a schedule of well thought-out activities, all guided by experts, that show off the region’s beauty and diversity: try hiking, tea tasting, fishing, and biking. Shared meals are served in the dining area, and you can expect high-end cuisine and delicious drinks, all of which are included in the package price.
The Colonial-style bungalow accommodation is intimate – there are only eight rooms in total in two bungalows – and lovingly restored a lovely blend of older style furnishings, such as cosy fireplaces and free-standing bathtubs, and modern touches, including luxurious walk-in rain showers.
This is a great and peaceful place to bring the kids, either for a relaxing mountain retreat or a fast-paced nature adventure tour. Whichever you’d prefer, expect to be treated like royalty. Just keep in mind that demand is high, so it’s best to book well in advance.
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
