A Journey through Madhya Pradesh
Prepare to be wowed by incredible history, architecture, and wildlife, before finishing the holiday on the sacred Narmada river at Maheshwar.
On the slopes of Shamla Hill overlooking Bhopal’s beautiful surroundings, Jehan Numa is a 19th century converted palace in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, inspired by Colonial, Italian, Renaissance, and classical Greek architecture. Its 106 rooms, lovely grounds, and recreational areas blend tradition and a historic atmosphere with modern comforts.
Just a short drive from Bhopal’s centre, Jehan Numa Palace Hotel is a perfect base for exploring the region. The Old City, the ancient market, the lake, and plenty of museums are all within a couple of kilometres of the hotel. UNESCO World Heritage listed Sanchi Stupas, and the Bhimbetka Caves are just over an hour away. On-site, there’s a lovely expansive pool, a gym, and a horseriding trail. While Jehan Numa is a tad out of the city centre, it’s still much closer to where the action is than its sister property, Jehan Numa Retreat.
The rooms and suites are spacious and comfortable, furnished in a traditional style with modern facilities. Many of the rooms have balconies, verandas, or courtyards, and we would highly recommend an Imperial Room for spectacular balcony views and a lot of space. Dining is a real treat: visitors come from far and wide to sample the cuisine - we love the Under the Mango Tree restaurant.
All in all, Jehan Numa Palace Hotel is admired for its location, spacious rooms and historic ambience. It’s a great value choice for a visit to Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh’s hidden treasures.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
