Toraja Village Walk And Funeral Ceremony,
Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi
Info : Toraja Village Walk And Funeral Ceremony
Enjoy a light trek to a local Toraja village, where you can interact with the villagers and witness their unique funeral rites, which this part of Indonesia has become famous for. Please note that while this is very interesting from a cultural and anthropological point of you, it is not for everyone, as the live sacrifices of buffalo and pigs can be quite disturbing. However, there is also much more to the ceremony’s than the sacrifices- the traditional dances, large feasts and huge family gatherings are well worth stopping by for! Funerals are such a large part of the culture and tradition of the Torajans it can take years to plan them, and family will come from all over Indonesia, Papua and even as far as Australia to take part.

Six great and amazingly different hotels - we would happily recommend any of them. We had three excellent guides as well. And we lost track of the number of "Wow" moments. In addition to the obvious, including Paramban, Borobodur and Bromo, we would add our tour of the markets + rickshaw ride in Malang, and having coffee with Mr Rai at the Agung Rai Gallery in Bali. Our guide in Bali, Otok (?) was excellent at explaining local culture, and we left an offering at his family shrine.
