“On the Edge of Wildness” – NIHI Sumba (previously Nihiwatu) is an intimate island retreat, eco-friendly hotel and ultra-luxury getaway all rolled into one.

This one-of-a-kind retreat sits in a secluded spot in Indonesia: on a pristine sweeping stretch of brilliant white beach with some of the most transparent blue water we’ve ever seen. The resort itself is spread across 567 acres of land, and while most of this is left untouched to focus on preserving a natural and unspoiled environment, there is still plenty of space between the villas, dining pavilions, Boathouse and jungle spa, which helps to maintain an air of exclusivity and privacy.

Lush gardens surround the entire resort, and there's beautiful ocean-front dining on the sand. There are lovely communal swimming pools, but the grand luxury villas have their own private infinity pools (bliss). All the earthen-style, thatched-roof villas are open-style, with unbelievable ocean views and  tasteful, comfortable furnishings. There are also Tree House villas available, with three bedrooms - great fun for families.

One of NIHI's most unique and exciting features is the impressive list of activities and excursions that you can get involved in. From world-class surfing, snorkelling and diving to waterfall yoga, hiking through breathtaking scenery and cultural interactions with the local Sumbanese (thanks to the cooperation of whom the resort was founded). One of our absolute highlights is watching the local horse racing on the beach – a flurry of colour and excitement!
