Eighty miles and a 35-minute seaplane ride north of Male is Kuredu Island Resort on Lhaviyani Atoll. Famous for its remote beauty and abundant marine life – Lhaviyani is a classic Maldives destination.
Kuredu is all about the facilities and range of activities and dining options. It is not the island for those who want to fulfil their Robinson Crusoe fantasies and get some complete peace and quiet (though the Sangu Water Villas are very quiet and peaceful), but it is perfect for those who like to keep busy or families who need to keep different members interested!
The facilities on the whole island itself are the most comprehensive in the Maldives – it is an island which really can keep the whole family happy. Kuredu has the largest water-sports centre in the Maldives, providing everything: parasailing, water ski/wakeboarding and kite surfing as well as the usual catamaran sailing boats, windsurfing, canoes and pedalos. There is a fantastic dive school – perfect for learning to dive and the house reef means there is excellent snorkelling just off the beach. In terms of land sports, there is a football pitch and floodlit tennis courts as well as volleyball, badminton, a gym and an entertainment system. As a bonus, Kuredu is the only island resort with a golf course. As a 6 hole, par 3 course with a driving range and putting green, it is more for fun than a serious game – but you won’t play in a more exotic location!
The golf course is an indication that this is one of the biggest islands in the Maldives archipelago, and its physical size means that the large resort doesn’t feel crowded at all.
Kuredu is known as an ‘all-inclusive’ resort, meaning that all meals and drinks are included. They have two different levels of ‘all-inclusive’ mainly relating to how many activities are pre-included. There are several restaurants which can be enjoyed inter-changeably, and the food is of consistently high quality. This concept works well for families, as budgeting is clear and straightforward.
Kuredu is three resorts in one: The modern O-Resort; the overwater villas at Sangu and the pool villas in the centre of the island at Sulthan Pool Villas. The O Resort is ideal for families and can be superb value – with long-stay specials available year-round. The Sangu Water villas are not suitable for children under 12 for safety reasons, and their more remote position makes them better for couples looking for some privacy and peace.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
