Laban Rata is a mountainside lodge an around 4-6 hours climb from the base of Kinabalu Park. It is a practical overnight stay before you climb the summit of Mount Kinabalu, ideal for overnight rest if you want to trek up this famous mountain and it will help you to avoid altitude sickness by acclimatisation.

Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain in Malaysia, and the views from the summit are spectacular, climbing to the top is an incredibly memorable experience, an achievement that you'll never forget. Laban Rata offers private double and twin rooms as well as dormitory accommodation. Private rooms are heated, with an en suite bathroom offering a warm shower.

Laban Rata has a nice restaurant with lots of tea on offer, beer if you’re so inclined and hot food. There is also a small tuck shop which, while expensive, offers treats after your climb like chocolate and biscuits.

It’s not luxury here, facilities are essential, but it offers what’s important when climbing a mountain: a clean bed, hot food and inspiring views.

Basic - The 'Basic' category covers places which are very simple indeed, with extremely rudimentary facilities. These places are used when they are part of the experience, such as a village homestay, or when there are no other hotels available in an area.
