Northern Oman, Oman, Al Hajar Mountains
Grand Canyon & Villages
Travel deep into the Hajar Mountains to Al Hamra, a traditional village and one of the oldest in the country.
It’s home to an array of Yemeni-style mud-brick homes, some of which have been abandoned. Sit down for a local lunch before a stroll through the village of Wadi Ghul where you will meet an Omani family to learn about their handicrafts and lifestyle.
Next, you’ll travel towards Oman’s Grand Canyon, which sits amidst the country’s highest mountain, Jebel Shams (Sun Mountain). The views from the top of the canyon are nothing short of spectacular as you look out to the vertical cliffs and rocky abyss. You may even spot shepherds in the distance, their sheep nimbly picking their way through the rocky landscape.
