As with all our holidays, this itinerary is just a starting point. We will create a bespoke package which will be completely unique for you.

Day 1

Your adventure begins

Depart your home country for your flight to Salalah.

Days 2 - 5

Southern Salalah

Arrive in Salalah and check in to the Anantara Al Baleed Resort. Set on a lovely private beach, this is a great spot in which to begin your holiday. The surrounding area has gorgeous scenery, culture and adventure with plenty to occupy you if you feel like being active.

In Salalah, your guide will take you on a walk through the glistening mosque and the old souq and then explore the exceptional coastline. The ‘zig-zag’ road has some epic views where the Indian Ocean skirts around the shores and frankincense trees lie scattered around the dry countryside. In the Jebel Qara mountains you can take in birdlife, natural limestone formations, pretty villages and picturesque Wadis with green and blue hues of water surrounded by lush vegetation.

An absolute must during your stay is a 4×4 drive into the magical dunes of The Empty Quarter – the largest sand desert in the world. Explore the fascinating UNESCO site of The Lost City of Ubar – the fabled “Atlantis of The Sands” discovered in 1992 by a team of explorers including Ranulph Fiennes.  Enjoy a picnic lunch in the dunes and take a moment to absorb the awesome landscape. If you like, an overnight wild camping experience can also be arranged in the desert.

Days 6 - 7

Jabal Akhdar Mountains

Depart Salalah for the one-hour flight to Muscat. Your guide will be waiting for you on arrival to the transfer you to your next destination. Pass by quintessential date palm groves as you ascend into the beautiful Jabal Al Akhdar mountains. Stop to visit places that interest you along the way, maybe Jabreen Castle which stands alone in the empty plains that contrast with the impressive mountains that surround them.

Arrive at your hotel where the climate is a little fresher than in Salalah and the backdrop is quite different. Yet, with unique stone-clad architecture and a lovely pool looking out into the abyss, this is an equally memorable place to stay.

You’ll feel enveloped by the killer views without even leaving the resort, but if you’d like to get out and explore, then hikes and adventures with your guide can be arranged. Spring is particularly picturesque and scented as it’s the season for roses, but you’ll enjoy exploring abandoned villages and terraced orchards against a vast expanse of mountain scenery at any time of year.

Days 8 - 10

Muscat

Leaving the mountains, descend in your 4×4 vehicle towards the picturesque town of Nizwa which simply brims with history and traditional architecture. Visit the souq, one of the oldest in Oman, and explore the restored Nizwa Fort. Then continue on to Muscat to check into your luxury beach hotel.

You’ll surely want time to spend some time around the hotel; the spa and restaurants are excellent and the pool – one of the longest in Asia – is just waiting to be enjoyed. During your time in the capital, there is time to both indulge in your accommodation and explore the different aspects of the city. Muscat stretches along the coast, from well-known sights such as the impressive Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque – a marvellous feat of modern Islamic architecture – to the souqs and seaside promenade of Mutrah. Your guide is your key to discovering the tastiest food, experiencing the warm hospitality of the locals over Arabic coffee and dates and learning about the area’s fascinating blend of modernity and tradition.

Days 11 - 13

Six Senses Zighy Bay

Zighy Bay is in the northernmost part of Oman, a small enclave separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. Take a one-hour flight to Dubai* where you’ll be met on arrival for the road transfer to the Six Senses property.

If you like an adrenalin thrill, you can cut the road journey short and parasail down the mountains directly into the hotel. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a very special entrance!

Spend your time at Zighy Bay relaxing and enjoying your pool villa, the beautiful beach and the unforgettable dining.

*Please note that it is also possible to fly from Muscat to Khasab (both in Oman) rather than go via Dubai, but in practice, the Dubai route is most straightforward.

Cruise in Oman

Muscat, Oman

Sunset Cruise Along Muscat's Coast

There’s no better way to soak in the magic of an Omani sunset than from the water. As the afternoon light begins to soften, set sail along Muscat’s coastline on either a sleek modern catamaran or a traditional wooden dhow – the vessel that has carried Omani fishermen for generations.

With a refreshing drink in hand, watch as the sun dips below the horizon, casting brilliant hues of gold, crimson, and violet across the sky. From the deck, you’ll enjoy a unique perspective of Muscat’s landmarks, from the Old Town to its rugged cliffs and harbour.

The experience is complete with a delicious dinner served onboard as you continue to sail peacefully around the Old Town’s waterfront, taking in the sights under the evening sky.

Wahiba Sands, Oman

Bedouin Life In The Dunes

Experience the windswept sand dunes of the Omani desert around The Wahiba, otherwise known as the Sharqiya Sands. Here you’ll get a glimpse of Bedouin life and traditions that are sadly rapidly disappearing. The Bedu families live a traditional nomadic life, spending their days raising livestock, using their great understanding of the harsh surrounding environment to get by.

Sit down and share a set of coffee and dates with a Bedu family, admiring their colourful handicrafts and learning about their lifestyle. If you’re up for an adrenaline rush, you can even head out dune bashing as you whizz around the dunes in a 4WD.

Desert Oman

Dhofar, Oman

A Day in The Empty Quarter

While in Dhofar, a must-see is the spectacular Rub Al Khali desert or ‘Empty Quarter’, the region’s most remarkable sight and the world’s largest expanse of uninterrupted desert.

Visit the fascinating World Heritage Site known as the Lost City of Ubar, a legendary ancient kingdom that was swallowed whole by the desert sands. It was gone without a trace, earning the name ‘Atlantis of the Sands’, before being spotted by satellites and excavated in 1992. Your guide will explain its history before making your way to the Empty Quarter. Take in the incredible views of the dunes and stop for some lunch before returning to Salalah. Along the way, visit Wadi Dawka, otherwise known was the frankincense Wadi, home to the region’s largest collection of frankincense trees. It’s the perfect spot to learn a little more about its use in both the past and modern worlds.

Dolphin Oman

Muscat, Oman

Dolphin Watching & Snorkelling in the Sea of Oman

Pods of dolphins are commonly spotted frolicking around Oman’s shores, from Muscat you don’t have to go far from land to watch them glide through the water. There is a good chance you’ll spot a variety of dolphins dipping above and below the ocean on an early morning boat ride.

Cruise along the coastline, enjoying spectacular views of the Muscat peninsula from the ocean before docking in the calm waters of Bandar Khayran, a natural harbour, for some swimming and snorkelling.  This is a great spot for a picnic lunch and you can spend much of the day relaxing on one of the beaches, dipping in and out of the water.

Important FAQs about Oman
