Nizwa, Oman’s old capital, is brimming with history, culture and traditional architecture. Take in the drama of the impressive 17th Century Nizwa Fort, the town’s crowning jewel. For impressive views out over the city, dotted with date plantations, climb up the 40m tower that sits high above the complex.
Discover the town’s souq, a busy marketplace which is one of the oldest in Oman. The lifeblood of the town, it sells all kinds of goods from fresh produce to handicrafts, spices and antiques.
If your visit happens to be on a Friday, the town will be especially abuzz with activity and frantic haggling at the weekly livestock market.
