Marvel at the grandeur of the Sultan Qaboos Mosque, with its imposing exterior and breathtakingly beautiful interior

Another of Oman’s surprises is the green countryside that can be found in its southern regions.
From June to September residents from the whole of Arabia flock to southern Oman to see the spectacle of rain and experience the green surroundings. The ‘khareef’ (monsoon) arrives here from India in the summer, bringing with it a temporary lush landscape that is rarely found in this part of the world.

Salalah is the hub of the region and is the second-largest city in Oman. It can be reached from Muscat by flight or overland as part of an in-depth tour of the country. There are even international flights arriving from India, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. The city is a little different to Muscat, with a wilder coastline where papaya and banana plantations thrive by virtue of the climate. There are fantastic beaches and an interesting cultural mix, as well as a range of historical sights and colourful souqs.
Salalah has a handful of good quality international chain hotels, while the Juweira Boutique Hotel with 82 rooms is smaller and offers a more intimate stay. A real highlight is the luxurious Al Baleed Resort By Anantara sitting between a beach and freshwater lagoon. Here you can really unwind and enjoy an array of excellent facilities, dining options and day trips.
