Uga Jungle Beach
Couples,
Families
Set on a wild stretch of Sri Lanka’s east coast near Trincomalee, Uga Jungle Beach sits where dense jungle meets the Indian Ocean.
Villas or ‘Cabins’ are tucked into thick foliage, giving a strong sense of privacy while still being just moments from the beach.
The setting feels deliberately low-key, with sandy paths weaving through trees and the sound of the ocean never far away.
It’s part of the Uga collection, so you can expect thoughtful service and proper comfort.
The beach itself is beautiful and shared only with a handful of local fishermen from the neighbouring village. With both a designated fun and sports area and a quieter space for relaxation, it suits energetic families just as well as couples seeking peace and tranquillity.
Trincomalee town, home to its historic Dutch Fort, and Pigeon Island, known for excellent snorkelling and diving, are both popular day trips within easy reach of Jungle Beach. Nearby, the ancient Buddhist temple of Girihadu Seya is well worth a visit, while the surrounding area has remarkable wildlife and scenery. You can also borrow complimentary bikes from the hotel to discover the nearby villages at your own pace.
The bar and restaurant are open-air, set beside the resort’s swimming pool and Jacuzzi, with trees growing through and around the space to create a wonderfully natural atmosphere. Choose between a wide selection of Sri Lankan and Western dishes, and don’t miss out on the outstanding seafood this region is known for.
The Rooms
There are just under 50 luxury ‘cabins’ scattered across the grounds, either hidden within the jungle itself, positioned closer to the beach, or overlooking a lagoon.
They’re decorated elegantly in neutral tones with some pops of colour and traditional thatched roofs. Bathrooms are spacious with walk-in showers and some have outdoor elements to match the tropical setting.
An excellent option for families or larger groups is the ‘Cluster Cabins’, a collection of three private rooms arranged around a pool.
The most affordable category, the ‘Lagoon’ rooms, arguably have the best views, facing a quiet road and forest towards the peaceful lagoon beyond. Light sleepers, however, may notice the occasional passing vehicle and might prefer the ‘Beach’ rooms instead.
In keeping with the hotel’s natural ethos (very few trees were disturbed in its creation), the dense vegetation around the ‘Beach’ rooms means that only two offer any direct sea view.
