Gujarat In Depth
A 17-day journey through the heart of Gujarat where history, culture, and nature converge.
Situated in the rural flat lands of the Little Rann of Kutch, Rann Riders Resort provides simple yet comfortable cottages and an ideal base to explore the vast surrounding wilderness and the fascinating animal species of the area.
The Rann is a vast salt march in the Thar Desert, spanning over 7,505 square miles. While this may sound overwhelming, the guides from Rann Riders grew up in the region and know exactly where to look to find some of the indigenous wildlife. Depending on the season, guests on one of the resort safaris could see Desert Foxes, Golden Jackals, Indian Wolves, and an array of birdlife, from flamingos to eagles to the mighty Sarus Crane. Rann Rider is also close to The Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary, specifically established to protect this endangered species.
The resort style is inspired by local village life, and the 28 cottages mimic the traditional ‘bhungas’ and ‘koobas’ of the region, creating a distinct rustic charm. The interiors of both the Standard and Deluxe cottages are simple but spacious, although we prefer the Deluxe as they offer an additional living space and verandah.
In summary, we’d say Rann Riders is a great, no-nonsense resort with clean and comfortable accommodations and a focus on the wildlife, culture, and nature of the surrounding area.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
