Gujarat In Depth
A 17-day journey through the heart of Gujarat where history, culture, and nature converge.
This small heritage hotel with just four rooms offers a tranquil oasis in the heart of bustling Bhuj. Built around a peaceful courtyard dotted with plants, the Bhuj House offers guests a relaxing and friendly atmosphere and a prime location from which to explore the culture of Kutch.
Originally built over 150 years ago, The Bhuj House has been in the Bhujwala family for six generations. The property was restored and converted in 2015 and has welcomed visitors ever since, already winning the ‘Best Heritage Stay’ award. Filled with family treasures, photographs, and memorabilia, the house is a real immersion in the history and traditions of the Kutch region.
The four guest rooms vary in size, but all feature traditional and antique furniture and locally made Kutch fabrics. The three ground-floor rooms sleep between two and three people each, and all open to the leafy courtyard pantry where freshly cooked meals, coffee, and chai are served. The larger fourth bedroom is at the top of a spiral staircase, with two interconnecting rooms opening to a sunny terrace overlooking the courtyard. Although ideal for groups and families, taller guests need to watch their heads in the upstairs room due to the sloping roofs.
We’d recommend The Bhuj House to anyone interested in local culture and history who enjoys a friendly and informal setting over a chic, modern hotel. It is particularly good for groups and families due to the various bedroom options and set-ups.
Comfort - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin - provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels.
