A speck on a map between Java and Borneo, this private island idyll sits on Menjawakan island.
Kura Kura Resort owns the whole 22-hectare island, giving guests a real sense of privacy and space.
With soft white beaches and vibrant reefs just offshore, it’s a dream for both keen snorkellers and those wanting to take it easy and simply be. Soak in the heavenly views…
This is the place to go for pure escapism, and ideal for honeymoons and couples.
There’s one main restaurant with a bar, where local seafood is the speciality with an extensive menu offering both western and Southeast Asian cuisine. You can choose from several other dining locations around the island like the al fresco areas, the lobby bar or around the pool, so you can flit between a different social environment each night.
Activities here also include a Robinson-Crusoe-style cruise to explore the rest of the archipelago, and of course, snorkelling and diving is firmly on the agenda.
It’s worth bearing in mind that Kura Kura is only open during the summer months (May to October), and you reach it via a scheduled daily flight from Semarang in a small plane, or by ferry from various terminals throughout central Java.
The Rooms
The rooms vary in size and are scattered across the island. Firstly, there are some cute seaview cottages with views over the clear blue lagoon and are just one step from the beach.
The larger villas each have a private pool and combine tropical luxury with rustic chic interiors.
Then there are the spacious 2-bedroom family villas. As the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the pool, these villas are also ideal for group of friends travelling together.
