Depart your home country on your overnight flight to Bali, Indonesia.
Step into Indonesia at its most refined, where ancient landscapes meet exceptional stays.
This itinerary brings together three of our favourite stays, chosen for their remarkable settings, understated elegance and deeply intuitive service.
Begin in the lush inland hills of Bali before exploring Java’s volcanic landscapes and some of Southeast Asia’s most compelling temple complexes. Then return to Bali, where a gentler pace, rich traditions and time by the coast provide a natural counterpoint to the mainland.
Refined Bali & Java
As with all our holidays, this itinerary is just a starting point. We will create a bespoke package which will be completely unique for you.
Day 1
Your adventure begins
Day 2
Ubud, Bali
On arrival at Denpasar Airport, your guide will meet you and assist you through the airport. With VIP immigration support, you can avoid the usual queues and move quickly through passport control. Your driver will then take you to your hotel in Ubud, set in the southern foothills of Bali’s volcanic mountains.
As Bali’s cultural capital, Ubud offers vibrant markets, historic temples, excellent restaurants and distinctive traditional architecture. It suits private exploration particularly well. Steep river valleys and shimmering paddy fields surround the town, creating a setting that feels both serene and deeply connected to nature.
Day 3
Ubud
Enjoy a guided tour of Ubud, Bali’s cultural centre. First, visit the ARMA Museum’s excellent art gallery, then stop in Batuan Village to meet Dewa Nyoman Batuan, a master of Balinese painting and its culture.
End the day with a stroll through Ubud’s market or take a look around the nearby Palace.
Day 4
Ubud
Take a private walking tour through the beautiful countryside surrounding Ubud. You will be guided through local villages and paddy fields by a local Balinese Priest who will offer a great insight into Balinese nature, religion and culture.
After the walk, you will finish up at the Priests house, where you will receive a traditional Balinese lunch, followed by a Balinese blessing.
Day 5
Borobudur
Fly to Yogyakarta Airport, where your guide will meet you on arrival and assist with your onward journey.
From here, travel through the fertile landscapes of Central Java, where volcanoes rise on the horizon and rural life unfolds at a gentle pace. You will then be transferred to your hotel, set in a remarkable location close to the iconic Borobudur temple, where the surrounding scenery and sense of history create an atmosphere that feels both peaceful and deeply evocative.
Day 6
Borobudur
Borobudur stands as a remarkable Buddhist temple, built between AD750–850 by the rulers of the Sailendra dynasty. It sits on a forested plateau, surrounded by dramatic volcanic peaks, including the highly active Gunung Merapi.
To make the most of your visit, arrive at sunrise, when the experience feels at its most atmospheric. Watch the sun rise between the two volcanic peaks that tower over the eastern horizon, casting light across the landscape. While the temple itself draws the eye, the way the early morning light transforms the surrounding scenery more than rewards the early start.
Day 7
Yogyakarta
Drive to the historic city of Yogyakarta and visit the tenth-century Prambanan temple. Although restoration work continues, the complex still stands as a magnificent example of architecture. In particular, the sculptures and reliefs on the main Shiva temple rank among the finest examples of Hindu art.
For the best experience, arrive at sunset. Climb one of the eastern temples and watch the sun set between the three largest temples to the west, as the shifting light adds depth and atmosphere to this already striking site.
Day 8
Yogyakarta
This morning, visit the Kraton, the traditional home of the Sultan and the royal court. After a tour of the site, continue to the Taman Sari Complex, also known as the Water Castle.
Following lunch at a local restaurant and a few hours’ rest at your hotel, visit Sambisari Temple before setting off on an hour-and-a-half bike ride through the back roads of Yogyakarta, finishing at the Suryo Cultural Centre behind Prambanan temple.
Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful Hindu temple complexes in the world, Prambanan offers an unforgettable finale. Enjoy exclusive access to the temple at sunset, where you can take in breath-taking views as the light softens across the ancient stone.
Days 9 - 13
Jimbaran Bay
Fly back to Bali and arrive at your luxurious, relaxing beach hotel in Jimbaran, in south Bali. Here, lush tropical scenery meets soft white sands and crystal-clear waters.
Spend four days at leisure, unwinding on the beach and sampling the excellent local seafood restaurants that line the bay.
Day 14
Fly home
Transfer to Denpasar, Bali’s airport, to catch your flight home.
A Brilliant Adventure (Bali and Beyond)
Decided we wanted to do more than just go to Bali so asked for something different and some travelling around, and what an adventure it turned out to be. Highlight climbing the Ijen volcano in East Java a fantastic experience with our very experienced guide... Then off to Sumba a magical and intriguing island... The whole trip was a great mixture of adventure, culture and lovely hotels.

What’s included:
With ETG, what’s included is shaped around ease. We take care of the practical details that can distract from the experience itself, so you’re free to relax into the journey and enjoy it as it unfolds.
Here’s what comes as standard in all of our holidays:
Pricing:
Each journey is shaped around you, so costs vary depending on season, flight choices, accommodation and how much is built in.
As a guide, most of our two-week trips fall between £5,000 and £10,000 per person.
Some fall below that, particularly for families or travel outside peak periods. Others go beyond it when the brief includes business-class flights, longer stays, or more ambitious hotel choices.
We discuss budget early, so everything is clear from the start.
Meet Our Indonesia Experts
Lola’s love for Indonesia runs deep – and not just for Bali (though she has a soft spot for its magical interior and knows exactly where to find the best warung for lunch). What really excites her is helping travellers uncover the country’s sheer variety – from the smouldering volcanoes of Java to the rich marine areas in far-flung corners like Raja Ampat.
“Java and Bali work beautifully together on this route: ancient temples, volcanic landscapes and slow, soulful beach time all woven into one seamless journey. It’s Indonesia at its most rewarding.”

Let us show you the Indonesia we know and love.
The short answer? Your best bet is during the summer. The slightly longer answer? Indonesia is massive – a 4,000km stretch of sea and islands, home to thousands of microclimates and shifting seasons. So when you search for the “best time to visit Indonesia” and get five different answers… they’re probably all right. Just for different places.
Most travellers aim for April to October, when much of the country sees its driest, sunniest weather. This works especially well for Bali, Lombok, Java, and Komodo. These months also line up neatly with the European and US summer holidays, which makes planning easier, especially for families.
But here’s where it gets interesting. If you’re heading to Raja Ampat or West Papua, the best time is the opposite – from October to April. Wildlife in Sumatra is great in the mid-year months, while the rainforests of Kalimantan stay steamy year-round (it’s a jungle, after all). And if you’re hoping to catch a particular cultural event or religious festival, that can shift the calendar entirely.
Every ETG holiday to Indonesia is designed to feel seamless, immersive and stress free. We’ll arrange international flights (if you’d like us to), your drivers and guides, and stays in characterful hotels we know and trust.
You’ll experience Indonesia in a way that’s completely tailored to you – from quiet moments to big adventures – all planned by our Indonesia specialists. And while you’re away, our local team is on hand 24/7, so you’ll always feel well looked after.
