Take in the jungles and wildlife of Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), the ancient history and surreal scenery of Java and the exotic beaches and warm Hindu culture of Bali.
Spend four days exploring Tanjung Puting National Park either by klotok (houseboat) or from a land-based lodge on the riverbank. Spend your time here spotting proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, lizards and numerous bird species and of course the famous resident orangutans. You’ll visit Camp Leakey, the renowned orangutan research and breeding centre and there will be a chance to trek through the forest to see orangutans at their feeding platform.
From Borneo now to Java, where you’ll spend five days exploring the island's historic heartland. Pass through the ridge of volcanic mountains that bisect the north and south of the island and discover ancient Borobudur, the lesser known 8th-century temple Gadung Songo and 10th century Prambanan. There will be plenty of time to relax in your comfortable hotel too.
Finally, take a short direct flight to neighbouring Bali where you’ll split your time between Ubud, the Sideman hills and the coast. You’ll stay in some lovely properties where you can both relax and get a feel for authentic Balinese life.
