Day 1: Depart The UK

Depart the UK on your overnight flight to Yogyakarta.

 DAYS 2 & 3  YOGYAKARTA  - JAVA

Upon arrival in Yogyakarta, your designated driver-guide will be waiting to transfer you to your accommodation. After your flight, take the remainder of the day to unwind.

Embark on a cultural exploration of Yogyakarta on your first full day in Indonesia. Highlights include a visit to the Kraton, the traditional residence of the sultan, and the awe-inspiring tenth-century Hindu temple, Prambanan. As the day draws to a close, witness the striking silhouette of the temple against the backdrop of a colourful sky,

 DAYS 4 & 5  BOROBUDUR  - JAVA

A short drive from Yogyakarta brings you to Borobudur. Staying near the temple allows ample time over two days to fully appreciate its grandeur, particularly during sunset and sunrise.

Rise early on day five to climb to the pinnacle of Borobudur, where a breathtaking view of the surrounding volcanoes and lush landscapes will greet you. Dating back to the 8th century, Borobudur is adorned with intricately sculpted reliefs depicting the life of Buddha and key Buddhist principles. Following your temple visit, you can relax at the hotel or explore the surrounding area.

Day 6-9: Kalimantan Explorer (Indonesian Borneo)

Transfer north to Semarang and board the short flight to Pangkalanbun on Kalimantan in Borneo for a three-day river adventure on the Kalimantan Explorer, a traditional Klotok boat. Journey through Tanjung Puting National Park to spot orangutans up close, with opportunities to participate in feeding programs and visit Camp Leakey’s research centre.

Spend four days exploring Tanjung Puting National Park by klotok (houseboat) or from a land-based lodge on the riverbank. Spend your time here spotting proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, lizards, numerous bird species, and famous resident orangutans. You’ll visit Camp Leakey, the renowned orangutan research and breeding centre and there will be a chance to trek through the forest to see orangutans at their feeding platform.

Day 10 & 11: Bromo (Java)

Fly back to Java, to Surabaya airport, and continue to your hotel near Mount Bromo. Enjoy a couple of hours of R&R before heading towards Bromo for sunset. Most people visit the crater for sunrise, but sunset is atmospheric, too, and you can enjoy the experience with fewer crowds.

As you near the base, you’ll change your vehicle to a jeep to get closer to Bromo.

The next day, rise early and head to Penanjakan Mountain for spectacular sunrise views across Bromo and beyond. You’ll soak up 360-degree views of  Argopuro Mountain from the eastern side, a group of mountains next to Bromo crater and Semeru Mountain erupting in the background. Feel the breeze of the morning air while waiting for the sunrise, accompanied by some hot coffee and tea. Re-board your jeep before heading back to your hotel for a lazy afternoon.

Day 12 -15

Transfer back to Surabaya today and fly onwards to Bali, where you’ll split your time between Ubud, the Sideman hills, and the coast. You’ll stay in lovely properties where you can relax and get a feel for authentic Balinese life.

 Day 16

Depart Bali for your flight back to the UK. Alternatively, continue travelling east through Indonesia, perhaps adding on a few days in Lombok.
