Cardamom Tented Camp
Safari-style glamping
Families,
Couples
Nestled in Botum Sakor National Park, the largest in Cambodia, Cardamom Tented Camp is all about sustainable tourism and minimising the human footprint.
After a peaceful 45-minute boat ride upriver into the jungle, you’ll arrive at the camp’s safari-style glamping tents, set in a serene, peaceful environment with only the sounds of nature around you.
Run by Wildlife Alliance, the camp uses a portion of its revenue to fund forest rangers who fight poaching and illegal logging. It also invests in the local community. Their tagline, “Your stay keeps the forest standing” isn’t just a slogan. It’s a fact.
The camp’s mission is twofold: to educate travellers and to conserve the precious surrounding environment and its wildlife. The signature experience here is an early morning excursion, starting with a kayak along the river at dawn to spot some wildlife waking up.
You’ll then meet the rangers and hear firsthand about their work before joining them and your guide for a hike back through the thick jungle. En route, they’ll point out plants, insects, trees — and maybe even a snake or spider!
Afternoons are yours to relax on your tent’s verandah with a book, go for another paddle or hike, or swim in the river. There’s no Wi-Fi, so switching off comes naturally. All meals are included, with a daily set menu offering a selection of local dishes as well as some delicious desserts!
The Rooms
With 9 safari-style tents spread out across the property, you’ll have a sense of tranquility and privacy. There are twin or double rooms available and while no tents connect, there are two with a shared balcony which is ideal for families. Unzip the doorway and you’ll find the space inside is luxuriously comfortable. There is no air conditioning, but it is really not needed as the breeze blows through the tent and there’s a fan on hand as well.
In our opinion, Cardamom is a great place to immerse yourself in nature in a luxurious way, while gaining an insight into the issues that affect the National Park and supporting efforts to protect it. There isn’t a whole lot to do here though, so we feel two nights is the perfect amount of time to enjoy both the activities and some relaxation.
