Tucked away amongst pine trees below the mountains of Paro and surrounded by streams and the Balakha village sits the luxurious Amankora Paro Lodge. Views of Jhomolhari, the second highest mountain in Bhutan, can be seen on a clear day.
In the spirit of traditional Bhutanese architecture, the lodge has stone walls, fireplaces and clean, modern spaces with a view out towards the ruins of an ancient Buddhist dzong (fortress). The outdoor patio with its firepit makes for a relaxing spot to enjoy breakfast or a drink, while dining is also available on the verandah or in the elegant dining room. Romantic dinners can be organised in a private, forested area. The food is delicious with Bhutanese, Indian and Western dishes on offer. As is typical in all Aman properties, staff provide a very personalised service, making the property a wonderful place to come back to after exploring village-life nearby or completing the hike up to Tiger's Nest Monastery.
Paro was the first Amankora in Bhutan and is the largest of their properties, with 24 open-plan suites. In keeping with the typical Amankora layout, rooms are complete with a traditional wood-fired stove (known locally as a bukhari), rain shower and central bathtub.
Amankora Paro is not especially close to Paro town, however, the top quality service and rooms of this high-end property will provide you with a very memorable experience.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
