Chef Nak’s Homestay is a beautifully renovated wooden stilted home, surrounded by a garden oasis with saltwater pool.
It feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh despite only being a forty-minute drive from the city centre.
They only host one group at a time, so you’ll have it all to yourself too. There are three spacious rooms, a private garden and outdoor cooking area, and a saltwater pool to enjoy, as well as the delicious food prepared by Chef Nak and her team. As a way of supporting young people in the arts, local student musicians are employed to play traditional music as you dine.
Ideal for foodies and culturally curious travellers.
All in all, we highly recommend anyone visiting Phnom Penh spending a night or two at Chef Nak Homestay, either on its own or combined with a stay in the city.
Whether you are interested in food or just want to enjoy spending time in a serene and friendly environment, the homestay offers a unique experience and an insight into Cambodian culture. The gardens are lush and green, and you will get the sense of being in a remote tropical oasis despite the lively village outside the grounds. They also have their own tuk-tuk if you want to get out and about, although we’re not sure why you’d want to leave!
The Rooms
The hosts are avid collectors of Cambodian antiques, which are dotted throughout the décor: from vintage ice-shaving machines to traditional art, the design showcases the country’s Khmer heritage while still feeling fresh and up-to-date.
Each room has its own distinct style and comes with both a fan and air-conditioning, a large double bed, a seating area, and an ensuite bathroom. These are particularly special, with al fresco showers and even sunken tubs.
