Fredys Bungalow
Surrounded by wildlife,

Families
Overlooking the Bhimtal Valley and rugged mountain ranges, Fredy’s Bungalow is located just off a kutcha road, two kilometres from Bhimtal Lake.
The stone bungalows on the British hill stations inspired the construction of this charming Colonial style home, which is surrounded by cypress and deodar forest cover. Fredy’s Bungalow is warm and welcoming with lovely wood furnishings, a great place to come and relax, bird spot, see the varied wildlife, trek, boat, or simply meditate.
Owned by an avid entomologist, Fredy’s Bungalow has an exceptional collection of thousands of butterfly species, one of the biggest collections in the continent. The bungalow is right in the midst of the Kumaon Lake region, and Bhimtal Lake and the Sattal Lakes are all within walking distance. It’s a paradise for nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and butterfly collectors.
Fredy’s Bungalow is best suited to travellers looking for a small, characterful stay with a relaxed and personal atmosphere. It’s ideal for those who enjoy charming properties, quieter surroundings and thoughtful hospitality rather than polished luxury.
Life here moves at a gentler pace. Spend your mornings enjoying the cool hill country air, settle into the cosy shared spaces with a book or simply take in the peaceful surroundings from the garden. The warm hosting and home-cooked meals make it feel far more personal than a standard hotel stay.
The Rooms
The rooms at Fredy’s Bungalow are cosy and comfortable, and all have adjoining bathrooms. Each room leads out onto a wide veranda that overlooks the forest below. Though it’s not a luxury accommodation, you can expect all the usual modern facilities and some beautiful common areas, including the dining room, library, living room, and a step-down den full of activities for kids.
The kitchen here is open throughout the day, and you can take your meals at whatever time you please. They serve Kumaoni, Indian, and Continental cuisine here using locally-sourced fresh produce and seasonal menus. This is a cosy and welcoming homestay experience that’s slightly off the beaten track, perfect for families wanting a friendly reception and a quiet, idyllic base for exploration and relaxation.
