Palighar Farm Stay
Scenic location,
Intimate and peaceful stay
Couples,
Families
A stay at Palighar is all about experiencing the natural beauty of this rural, scenic location and local life through walks, cooking classes and staying in a typical local village-style structure.
The farm stay is located in Echhey, about 30 minutes from the town of Kalimpong and the two cottages were constructed using mud bricks, ‘ekra’ (knitted bamboo) and plastered with mud.
Friendly staff from the nearby villages are part of the owner’s commitment to helping local communities. Service may be informal, but it always comes with a smile! You won’t find the usual facilities here at Palighar, but that’s not what your experience is about. The essential amenities like electricity and running water are included, however. From the farm stay, you’ll have access to trekking routes, beautiful mountainous scenery, orchid nurseries and local markets. They dish up delicious, authentic Nepalese and local foods made mostly from fruit and vegetables grown close by on the farm and in the villages.
Palighar Farmstay is best suited to travellers looking to disconnect from busy city life and spend time in a more rural and grounded setting. It’s ideal for those who enjoy nature, local culture and simple stays with warmth and character.
Life here centres around the rhythms of the countryside. Spend your days exploring the surrounding farmland, relaxing in the open spaces or sharing home-cooked meals while getting to know local traditions and daily life. The welcoming atmosphere and slower pace make it feel far removed from a conventional hotel experience.
The Rooms
With just two individual cottages, you’re assured a very intimate and peaceful stay. They are clean and have attached bathrooms and verandahs to sit out on. Built with mud-brick, they have a thermo-regulation property, which keeps them cool in the summer and warm in winter.
Palighar is a great spot for those wanting an authentic, off-the-grid experience in Sikkim. Note that it is quite remote, with only a few staff, so it’s only for those who are up for the adventure!
