Aside from the larger towns of Gangtok, Kalimpong and Pelling in Sikkim, there are many other scenic and fascinating places worth visiting in this beautiful area of India.
Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim and is a charming, green village commonly frequented by trekkers due to its entryway to Kanchenjunga National Park which is home to over 500 species of birds and flora, towering glaciers and one of the world’s highest peaks, Mount Khangchendzonga.
The rice terraces of Martam, close to Gangtok are well worth trekking through and spending a few days relaxing close to the unique Rumtek Monastery. A night in Namchi to experience the atmospheric evening aarti at Char Dham is highly recommended as is a few days relaxing on a farmstay in Biksthang.
