You will be welcomed by the locals’ warmth and friendliness, discover a unique dance and music scene and enjoy unspoiled beaches, all amongst uncountable shades of green.
Tanah Lot is Bali’s most worshipped temple and is also the most visited, meaning it is almost impossible to avoid the crowds. If you prefer to steer clear of the noise and pushy sellers, head to the more isolated Pura Rambut Siwi and Pura Taman Ayun, a UNESCO Heritage Site that offers peace and quiet. Follow the historical thread and head to Kerambian to discover some of the best examples of classic Balinese architecture. Walk around the multi-section royal palace and assist at a dance performance or stop to admire skilful craftsmen at work, carving wood and stone.
You can continue your journey towards the centre of the island and enter Bali’s green realm, where winding roads unveil hectares of rice terraces at the foot of the Batukaru mountain range. On the road to Jatiluwih, stop in at Tabanan to learn about the region’s rice culture at the Mandala Mathika Subak museum. You will be rewarded with dramatic sceneries and fewer people as you experience the real heart of Bali.
Head to the west coast to discover the lesser-known beaches. Medewi and Balian cater for surfers and for those wanting to spend a day away from the crowds relaxing, reading a book or trying a seaview yoga class. The way to the northwest will also bring you to Taman Nasional Bali Barat and Pulau Menjangan for great diving and snorkelling.
