Must-sees for the first time visitor to this city include the immaculate Grand Mosque – simply magnificent with its elaborate chandeliers and one of the world’s largest Persian carpets. The Opera House is quite a treat as well and worth popping in to see, even if you’re not planning on watching a performance. An introductory tour would also incorporate a short walk along the Corniche, past the port and through the bustling souq and Mutrah fort where the aroma of burning frankincense and the sight of passing dhow boats evokes an atmosphere that is unique to Arabia.
Most visitors to Muscat will stay at a beach hotel. It is always hot and sunny, so it’s a great place for a relaxing holiday in the sun with a dash of sightseeing (most beach hotels are within easy reach of the sights). Our favourite places to stay are the beautiful Chedi Muscat, the perfect spot for couples, and the Shangri-La Al Waha, which families will love – you can even float around the resort along a lazy river. There are hotels to suit different styles and budgets, so please call us to discuss what you would like to include in your luxury holiday to Oman.
