Sepilok, Sabah, Borneo
Orangutan and Sun Bear Conservation Centre
The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre offers an incredible opportunity to observe the rehabilitation of orphaned or injured orangutans in their natural habitat.
Established to protect and nurture these gentle primates, the centre is dedicated to reintroducing them back into the wild. One of the highlights of a visit is the feeding session, where you can watch the orangutans interact and feed together, providing a heartwarming glimpse into their social behaviour and recovery journey.
Next, you’ll visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. This sanctuary is one of the few places where you can actually see the world’s smallest bear, an endangered species that is notoriously elusive in the wild. Through informative exhibits and observation decks, you’ll learn about the ongoing challenges these bears face, including habitat destruction and poaching, as well as the dedicated conservation efforts to protect them.
Your final stop is the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), a hub for environmental education and conservation. Here, you can wander along canopy walkways, explore trails, and discover the diverse flora and fauna of Borneo’s rainforests. The centre’s focus on plant preservation and sustainable forest management adds a fascinating layer to this wildlife experience.
