Family Highlights of Java and Bali

Day 1 – Depart the UK

Depart the UK.

Day 2 – Borobudur

You will be met by your guide when you arrive at the airport and taken to your hotel in Borobudur where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing at leisure.

Day 3 – Borobudur

Leave your hotel before sunrise and head to Borobudur temple, a stunning Buddhist temple on a forested plateau surrounded by dramatic volcanic peaks, including the highly active Gunung Merapi. Watch the sunrise majestically from in between the two volcanic peaks and then explore the temple in the misty morning light.

In the afternoon, your guide will return to take you to Candirejo, a traditional Javanese village in a beautiful natural setting. Take a ride in an “Andong”, a Yogyakarta horse-drawn carriage.

Day 4 – Yogyakarta

Transfer by road to the historic Javanese capital city of Yogyakarta.

Day 5 – Yogyakarta

This morning visit the Kraton; the traditional home of the sultan and the royal court. After a tour of the site, you will then visit the Taman Sari Complex, also known as Water Castle. After lunch at a local restaurant and a few hours rest at your hotel, visit the Sambisari temple and then set off on an hour-and-a-half bike tour through back roads of Jogjakarta, ending at the Suryo Cultural Center behind Prambanan temple. Renowned as one of the most beautiful Hindu temples in the world, you will have exclusive access to visit the temple at sunset for breath-taking views.

Day 6 – Ubud

Transfer by road to the cultural capital of Ubud and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7 – Ubud

Drive to a beautiful spot overlooking Mount Batur for breakfast. You will then be kitted out with mountain bikes and all the required safety equipment, before starting the downhill cycle through lush tropical paddy fields, coffee plantations and a tour of a village temple. After a traditional lunch that provides a beautiful insight into the local Balinese way of life, transfer back to your hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing.

Day 8 – Ubud

Today a local chef will guide you through the ingredients and processes involved in traditional Balinese cooking. You will start the day with an early morning visit to the market, with the hotel staff helping you to buy the ingredients required for the morning ahead and allowing you to try your hand at bargaining. The cooking itself takes place back at the hotel, in a traditional open-air Balinese kitchen amongst the rice fields and organic gardens.

Day 9 – 13 Candi Dasa

This morning you will be transferred to the relaxed seaside town of Candi Dasa on the quiet east coast of Bali. The rest of the day is for you to relax on the beach and unwind.

Spend four full days at your beachside hotel. Activities are available for those wanting to explore a little more, but this is a perfect place to sit on the beach and read and completely unwind.

Day 14 – Fly Home

Transfer to Denpasar, Bali’s airport, to catch your flight home.
