A Journey Through Laos
Exploring sleepy Laos from north to South at an easy relaxing pace on meandering river journeys and trains through mountain passes.
Originating as a small organic vegetable farm, the Living Land Company is a “not for profit” community based project in a village just outside Luang Prabang. By taking a hands on tour here you can learn about the farm itself and the processes involved in rice farming.
The project is staffed by people from the local village and the farm produces many of the vegetables used by the town’s top hotels and restaurants. The profits allow many local children to be put through school.
In a small group you’ll get to grips with the day to day processes of the farm, particularly those on the paddy fields, along with traditional methods and machines used to clean the rice, make sticky rice, rice noodles and sugar cane juice, among other things.
The Living Land motto is ‘when was the last time you did something for the first time?’ So, you will have the opportunity to plough the fields, plant the seeds and cut and collect the rice, while being introduced to the farm’s buffalos. Visitors can be as hands on as they wish; we recommend wading through the mud to plant the seeds, its an interesting, informative not to mention fun experience.
The tour ends with an opportunity to sit down and try a variety of rice based snacks, including some rice whiskey. It can be extended to include a local lunch on the wooden veranda overlooking the farm. The farm is not far from the Kuan Si waterfalls so you can combine visits to create a full day tour.
The tour is open to families with children over 6 and we think it is a great way to experience the traditional rural way of life, meet local people and have a very enjoyable time in the process. Highly recommended.
You can include this experience as part of an Experience Travel Group holiday designed exclusively for you.
