The ancestral home of the Royal Family of Bera and still the private residence of Thakur Baljeet Singh, Castle Bera is now a relaxed and welcoming homestay, close to Jawai.
Bera, a small village in the Aravali mountains of Rajasthan, is surrounded by dams and lakes, including Jawai Dam, the largest in the region. The Ranakpur Temple lies close enough for a day trip, and Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary sits less than two hours away. Bera gives a low-key, colorful glimpse of typical Rajasthani village life, but the real drawcard is the countryside and wildlife: magnificent desert scenery, rocky outcrops, forested plains, and unbeatable sunsets. And of course, the leopards. Bera is the gateway to Jawai and ranks among the region’s top leopard-spotting destinations.
The facilities are basic, and there’s a sense of faded grandeur about the place, but the atmosphere is comfortable and friendly all the same.
The Rooms
There are just five rooms in this heritage hotel, all of them air-conditioned, quite spacious, and tastefully decorated.
The service is discreet but genuine, and you’ll enjoy the hospitality of the owner himself while you’re there. There aren’t too many options in the area, so stay at Castle Bera if you don’t mind the idea of friendly and comfortable simplicity in rural Rajasthan.
