The vast majority of tourists come and view Angkor, which is, of course, wonderful, but explore a little further and you’ll discover a fascinating country full of hidden gems that many visitors miss. This suggested trip loops right around the Kingdom with plenty of time in each place to take in the many and varied wonders – both natural, historical and cultural. It covers 3 weeks but can, of course, be scaled back or extended to fit your timeframe.

From the famous Angkor Temples to the remote jungles of Mondulkiri, back down through the bustling capital Phnom Penh to the sleepy seaside towns of the South. This example itinerary offers an in-depth experience of a country rising out of its bloody history with resilience and sparkling energy.

If you can spare a little extra time, then there is no better way to explore Vietnam than by train. Follow the route of the ‘Reunification Express’ from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City via paddy fields, mountains and ancient ports.

Many trips to Vietnam whizz from north to south, ticking off the main sites along the way, but there is much to see in the north alone. The scenery is lush, varied and breathtaking, and there are plenty of wonderful places to stay. You’ll pick up the pace by exploring the surrounding landscapes before returning back to base to relax by a lovely swimming pool or choose from rejuvenating wellness experiences.

Of course, no trip to Vietnam would be complete without a bit of hustle and bustle, so there is time to enjoy the capital, Hanoi, at the end of the trip, with its vibrant history, culture, and epic food.

Rather than the standard 1-night option, we’ve suggested a two-night cruise here on a spectacular boat (which you might like time to enjoy) which will take you beyond the main route to hidden corners of Cat Ba Island and the equally magnificent (but less visited) scenery of Lan Ha Bay. 

This extraordinary journey finishes with a stay near the sacred Yen Tu Mountain in a converted monastery. An unusual end to an extraordinary itinerary.

Vietnam has epic scenery, but many visitors miss much of it; on this holiday, you’ll explore by raft, river, train and bike, taking in the mountainous North, the limestone caves of Phong Nha and the central coast. The suggested itinerary entirely skips the major cities, although we can include them in your bespoke holiday proposal.

The itinerary is for all ages, but it’s a good option for families looking for an active and immersive holiday at Easter. Spring is a good time to visit both Phu Luong in the North, Hoi An on the Central Coast and the Mekong Delta in the South.

Vietnam has an extensive network of domestic flights, so it’s tempting to fly around all over the place and pack loads in. But travelling a little more slowly by train can be hugely rewarding and fun! This holiday includes an overnight journey and two-day trains as you traverse the country from Hanoi to the Central Coast. You’ll stay in some great spots along the way including a luxury beach resort in an idyllic location.  

This trip suggestion works particularly well for families travelling in Spring and Summer since this is the best time to visit Phong Nha Caves and the Central Coast. It avoids the southern part of the country, where the weather is less favourable in the summer months.
