3 Handpicked: Best Beaches for Families in Vietnam

by Guest Post

After trekking through local villages, whizzing along backwaters, exploring jungles and zipping around city centres on Vespas, there is nothing more needed than a few days spent relaxing on a beautiful beach. People don’t often think of Vietnam straight away when they think of a beach destination, but this lack of inside knowledge has actually been Vietnam’s seaside saving grace as the beaches are still relatively undiscovered, retaining much of their natural beauty and charm. Check out the top three best beaches for families in Vietnam!

1. The beaches of Hoi An

Once a busy trading port in the 16th century, Hoi An is now a quaint seaside UNESCO World Heritage town with bags of colonial charm and beautiful Asian architecture. The beaches are a 10-15 minute drive from the town centre and are quiet, clean and great for swimming. Most hotels have a private section of beach, meaning they are well maintained and not too crowded. The nearby Cham Islands are great for snorkelling and can easily be visited on a day boat trip. Quick and easy to get to lovely restaurants and cafes in the evening in the town centre and perfect for renting bikes and taking a leisurely pedal around the beautiful rural countryside, Hoi An really does have it all.

Best time to go: May to August
Best family hotel: Victoria Hoi An Resort & Spa

2. Nha Trang beach

Nha Trang was the beach destination of choice for American GIs during the Vietnam War as a place to relax and see some of the natural beauty of the then war-torn country. Today, Nha Trang is still one of the best beaches in Vietnam, with long white-sand beaches, azure waters and some fantastic hotels. There’s plenty going on too, with restaurants, bars, water sports, diving and boat trips all available. Whilst some people feel Nha Trang has become too touristy in recent years, we know the best parts of town to stay to have peace and quiet, but never be too far from the action.

Best time to go: All year
Best family hotel: Evason Ana Mandara

3. Mui Ne beach

This hidden gem of a beach town has managed to retain much of its sleepy fishing-village charm, with small scale development enabling foreigners to come visit the seemingly endless sandy beaches of Mui Ne. Those wanting to try something a little different can enjoy some of the best water sports in Vietnam here, including windsurfing and kiteboarding, or even spend a day exploring the region’s impressive sand dunes – a striking backdrop to the lovely, relaxed beaches. Mui Ne is about a 4-5 hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City.

Best time to go: November to April
Best family hotel: Mia
