For younger families, we tend to slow the pace and avoid overly long travel days. Beach time, nature activities, and cultural visits are all made accessible and age-appropriate.
Cambodia Family Holiday Ideas
With remarkable riverboat journeys along the Mekong, untouched beaches, and jungle-clad temple ruins straight out of an adventure film (yep, really! Cambodia’s ancient sites starred in Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider), this is a family holiday destination with a difference.

“Most visitors rush through Angkor Wat at sunrise, but for a more peaceful experience, visit at sunset instead. The light is just as beautiful, and the crowds are far fewer, giving you space to take it all in.”

In Our Travellers’ Words
The Best Times to Go on a Family Holiday in Cambodia
Christmas & New Year: Swap grey skies for sunshine and end the year in a memorable way. Just bear in mind it’s peak season, so think ahead if you want first dibs on the best hotels.
February Half-Term: Ideal for a family getaway. Expect blue skies, warm temperatures, and fewer crowds than over Christmas.
Easter Holidays: We’d generally avoid this. April is Cambodia’s hottest month, so if your kids melt in the heat—or if temple visits will be met with dramatic sighs—it might not be the best bet.
Summer Holidays: May to September is Cambodia’s “green season,” when tropical rains bring the landscapes back to life. It’s quieter, hotel rates are lower, and the scenery is at its prettiest. If you’re after a beach holiday, we recommend neighbouring Thailand’s East Coast.
October Half-Term: A top choice for families. The rains ease off, the countryside stays wonderfully green, and it’s warm without being OTT. November is even better—high river levels make boat trips extra special.

Cambodia in the Summer: Lush, quiet and full of character
While it’s technically the rainy season, the countryside is vivid and green. Afternoon showers are usually short, and visitor numbers are low.

A Note on Christmas
Yes, you can skip the whole thing. Trade cold turkey and Christmas telly for fresh crab on the coast, with island breezes and golden sunsets for company. But if you’re not quite ready to ditch the festive spirit, don’t worry. Cambodia’s best hotels know how to celebrate – think lantern-lit dinners, tropical trees, and special seasonal menus.
December’s end-of-year rush can feel overwhelming. But with your ETG consultant steering the ship, you’ll have time to breathe. Whether it’s sunrise over Angkor or unique gifts from Kampot’s markets, Cambodia might just be your most memorable Christmas yet.
