Maldives Off the Beaten Track
Discover the real Maldives, away from the resorts on a local island where you can experience day-to-day life in comfort.
Explore the island of Dhiffushi with an expert local guide. The community is filled with the typical pastel coloured buildings and stunning old mosaic doors that characterise The Maldives. The design of these buildings has been influenced by ancient Moroccan traders that sometimes washed ashore after a shipwreck or stopped over to trade. Dhiffushi is predominantly a Maldivian Democratic Party supporting and you’ll see lots of street art and political slogans supporting the country’s ‘first democratically elected president’, Mohamed Nasheed – locally known as Anni.
The beaches are rather beautiful, although littered with some rubbish – a problem facing many local islands. There is also a rather wonderful Hedikaa café called Cozy Café. Make sure you reach there by around 4pm before everyone has emptied all the delicious dishes.
You can include this experience as part of an Experience Travel Group holiday designed exclusively for you.
