Unlike most resorts in the Maldives, Barefoot Eco Lodge sits on an inhabited island where Maldivian people live. So, here you have the opportunity to cycle around the town or explore on foot, getting a feel for local life in The Maldives, something that few travellers experience.
Sitting amongst the forest on the island of Hanimaadhoo, the lodge offers a beautiful backdrop too. Spend your days relaxing on the pristine stretch of private beach, swimming in the ocean, snorkelling or learning to dive. There is a lovely pool, a gym and a spa as well, or you can rent a kayak or paddleboard. Day trips will take you to spot dolphins, watch the sunset on a cruise or head out on a cultural bicycle tour, to name just a few.
Rooms are comfortable, and there are several categories, all built with the eco-friendly and sustainable ethos in mind. They are comfortable and nicely furnished, complete with all the usual amenities. Ground floor rooms have direct access to the sand and beach but, if you prefer ocean views, the top floor rooms are for you.
If you are looking for an alternative to the typical resorts in The Maldives, with local experiences on offer, this is a lovely option for couples and families alike. It's worth noting that no alcohol is served on the island, although you can take a trip out to the boat bar (local currency is required).
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
