In Our Travellers’ Words
Meet Our Experts
“For a quieter, more immersive alternative to Ha Long Bay, head to Ninh Binh. The dramatic limestone karsts, winding rivers, and ancient pagodas feel like a scene from a film. And you’ll experience it with far fewer crowds.”

The Best Times to Go on a Family Holiday in Vietnam
The school summer holiday is an excellent time to visit Central Vietnam’s caves, coast and cities like Phong Nha, Phu Yen and Hoi An, as these areas are lovely and warm and see little rainfall at this time of year.
Christmas is the prime time to drift down the Mekong Delta and bask in the glorious sunshine.
At Easter, Northern Vietnam is your best bet. Explore Ninh Binh under bright blue skies and see the cascading rice terraces of Pu Luong in all their glory.

A Note on Christmas
Yes, you can skip the whole thing. Trade turkey and TV for riverside dinners, boat rides through floating markets, or lazy days on a southern beach. But if you’re not ready to ditch the festive spirit, you’ll still find sparkle. Larger hotels love a celebration. Expect tropical trees, gala dinners and even the odd Santa sighting.
If the end of term feels overwhelming, let us take the stress out of it. Whether it’s meaningful gifts from local markets or once-in-a-lifetime moments with your family, Vietnam could be your best Christmas yet.

The Best Places to Go on a Family Holiday in Vietnam
In our eyes, a few of the best destinations in Vietnam for families are:
Hue for the perfect blend of adventure, history, and culture. Enjoy some good old-fashioned family time by swapping screens for the great outdoors and meander through little villages by bike to discover ancient garden houses.
Quy Nhon for blissful beach time (or watersports for restless teens).
Lak Lake for a proper off-the-beaten-track adventure.
Vietnam’s cities are also great fun for teenagers. Hanoi is incredible: labyrinthine alleyways come alive each morning with a flurry of activities like aerobics and badminton before turning into a hubbub of colour and energy. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon to its friends) is fun too. You might be able to buy fake branded goods at very low prices. So we’ve heard anyway. You can definitely visit the Cu Chin Tunnels and enjoy a Banh Mi or five…

Important FAQs about Family Holidays in Vietnam
Yes. With good infrastructure, varied experiences, and engaging activities, Vietnam works for all ages. We design pacing to fit your family.
Vietnamese food is fresh and often mild. Kids tend to love bánh mì, noodle dishes, and tropical fruit. Most hotels also offer Western options.
Not with ETG. We avoid long overland journeys for younger families and break up days with downtime or short flights. Everything is paced just right.
Ideally, at least six to nine months ahead. Especially if you’re travelling during school holidays like summer or Christmas. Vietnam’s best family-friendly hotels and experiences get snapped up quickly. Booking early gives you more choice and peace of mind, but we can sometimes work magic at shorter notice too.
