This holiday combines the highlights of Cambodia and Vietnam and connects the two countries via The Mekong River. Travelling the slow way by river and by road allows you to feel the contrast between slow-paced Cambodia and bustling, energetic Vietnam.

Highlights include:

  • Explore the Temples of Angkor with your expert guide
  • Discover the secrets of Cambodia’s past in the colonial capital Phnom Penh
  • Cross the border between Cambodia and Vietnam by boat
  • Feel the atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) as you travel pillion on a vintage Vespa
  • Relax on the beach on Phu Quoc Island

As with all of our suggested itineraries, we can tailor-make your holiday to suit your budget, style and expectations. Find out about our exclusive Journey Planner here.

Day 1  Depart the UK

Depart the UK.

Day 2 Siem Reap

Meet your guide on arrival and transfer to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or take a guided tour to one of the smaller temples to watch the sunset.

Day 3 & 4 The temples of angkor

We recommend an early start to experience the temples at their very best. Enjoy an al fresco picnic breakfast, perhaps at overgrown Ta Phrom or Banteay Srey - a stunning temple with pink hues. You'll explore the most famous temple Angkor Wat as well as the ancient royal city of Angkor Thom, including the impressive Bayon temple mountain. Other highlights could include the pyramid of Baphuon, Phimean Akas, and the royal viewing stands known as the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King.

The route of our Angkor excursions frequently changes to avoid clusters of tour groups where possible, and we are as flexible as possible.

Aside from the temples, during your stay in Siem Reap there will also be time to explore the rural villages of the Tonle Sap and to enjoy the cafes and night markets of the town itself.

Days 5 & 6  Phnom Penh

You can choose between a short flight or a road journey to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital.

During your time here there is the opportunity to take a comprehensive journey through some of the city's most important historic and cultural sites. Your guided tour will take in the infamous settings of Toul Sleng and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, before returning to the city and the bustling chaos of the Russian Market. After lunch you can visit the contrasting settings of the Royal Palace and the National Museum, followed by a cyclo tour and drinks on the terrace of the city’s famous Foreign Correspondents' Club.

Day 7  Chau Doc

Travel by boat from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc (in Vietnam) along the Mekong River, crossing the Cambodia/Vietnam border. Visa formalities will be taken care of on the way as you pass from one country into another in a unique fashion.

Vietnam feels so different to sleepy Cambodia!

Day 8  Can Tho

Journey through the Mekong region by road from Chau Doc to Can Tho. It takes approximately 3 hours through the heart of the Mekong Delta.

Day 9  the Mekong to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

Early this morning take a guided tour of Cai Rang, which is a bustling floating market near Can Tho. You will then leave the Mekong Delta region for a journey by road towards Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).  After some time to freshen up at your hotel, you'll take an exciting evening tour of Saigon, riding pillion on a vintage Vespa with your guide.

Day 10 & 11 Saigon

You have a full day to explore Saigon, with your guide taking in the main highlights such as Notre Dame Cathedral and the former Presidential Palace. You'll also take in some of the more off-the-beaten-track parts of the city and end the day with a cocktail at the chic "Skybar". This is a great way to get a feel for the contrasts of old and new.

During your time in Saigon, you'll also have time to venture to the Cu Chi Tunnels, if you wish to. The visit will be via the express river boat, a quick and fun way to travel.

Day 12 – 15 Mui Ne

Take a road transfer from Saigon along the coast to Mui Ne. You'll stay here for four nights and your time is free to relax and enjoy the beach, local restaurants and perhaps some watersports.

Day 16 – Fly Home

Transfer to Ho Chi Minh City airport for your flight home.

As every holiday is unique to you, prices vary.
