Rungus Tribal Homestay, Kudat
Borneo, Borneo (Sabah)

Info : Rungus Tribal Homestay

The Rungus people are a subsistence group residing primarily in northern Sabah, particularly around the small port town of Kudat

Considered one of the most traditional ethnic groups in Sabah, the Rungus tend to live communally in Longhouses with each family having its own separate quarters off a common hall. Made almost entirely of bamboo, the houses are built about 3-4ft from the ground on stilts, protecting the building from flooding and animal damage.

Spending the night with the villagers here is a great experience, providing the opportunity to gain some real insight into the hardships and to experience the highs of living as a Rungus tribesperson too. You can even tie it in with a trip to the most northerly tip of Borneo too.

Customer Feedback
ETG's Matt was always accessible (even though we are based in Hong Kong) and efficient in replying. Will be happy to recommend and use him again! Our guide Bryant in Abai was a real gem. He was very polite, incredibly well spoken, informative, intelligent and gentle. He foresaw our needs, such as ordering chips for the children's lunch, and went out of his way to make things comfortable for us. He was a pleasure to spend time with.
