Oman doesn’t reveal itself easily. Take Bahla, a World Heritage site with barely a sign in it. Walk it alone and it’s a wall of mud; walk it with the right person, and it becomes the history of the interior.
That’s why who you meet matters as much as where you stay. At the Grand Mosque, Mohammed explains the principles of Islam with total clarity as you walk through. In a fishing village outside Muscat, chat with members of the Sidab Women’s Sewing Group over tea in a garden overlooking the green-domed mosque below.
Alongside the mosques, the mountains, and the wadis, expect to find yourself in the middle of a goat auction at Nizwa, watch dawn break over the dunes in the Empty Quarter, wander the mud villages and falaj water channels at Misfat Al Abriyeen, or canyon through Snake Gorge: spectacular, and barely known.
The places you stay are exceptional, too. Our travellers rave about elevated mountains retreats like Alila Jabal Akhdar, where simply sitting on the verandah, watching the light shift across the canyon, is often a highlight. But it’s Mohammed, and guides like him, that people talk about even longer.
With our time out there exploring and the connections we’ve built, we design trips you wouldn’t have known to ask for.

“Don’t skip the coast. While Oman’s mountains and desert tend to steal the spotlight, the coastline hides remote fishing villages, secret beaches, and some of the best dhow trips in the region. Ask me about the best routes by sea.”

Oman's Hotels, Chosen In-House
Plenty of polished, highly rated hotels in Oman don’t make the cut for our collection. The ones that do have something special: a proper sense of place, a distinct atmosphere, and hosts who are genuinely glad you came. Some are grand, some are simple, but they all have enough character to stick in your memory. Here are the hotels we keep coming back to, alongside a few off-the-beaten-path finds you’d be hard-pressed to find by yourself.

Important FAQs about Oman
October to April is the most comfortable time, with cooler temperatures and clear skies. The summer months from June to September bring intense heat in most of the country, though Dhofar in the south is transformed by the khareef monsoon: mist rolls in off the sea, the landscape turns green, and it is unlike anywhere else in Arabia. We’d recommend it to the right traveller.
Ten days to two weeks covers the main regions well: Muscat, the Hajar Mountains, Nizwa and the forts, the Wahiba Sands, and up the coast to Musandam or down to the Dhofar. Oman is more spacious than its neighbours and doesn’t reward rushing between highlights. A week is possible, but the trips with real depth need more time than that.
Not in the usual sense. Every Experience Travel Group trip to Oman is private and designed for the person taking it, but we don’t do “tailor-made”, and that’s deliberate. Because “tailor-made” assembles a trip around what you asked for, from hotels and tours anyone can book. We design around why you’re travelling, using experiences we’ve built ourselves, boutique hotels we’ve scouted out and matched to you, and trusted guides and drivers we’ve worked with for years. That lets us reach parts of the country you wouldn’t have known to ask for.

Oman is one of Arabia’s most rewarding destinations, welcoming, diverse, and refreshingly low-key. With ETG, you’ll explore it with insight: journeying through desert dunes with Bedouin hosts, discovering remote mountain villages, or sailing along the coast on a traditional dhow. Our local guides help you understand the stories behind the scenery, and we take care of the details so you can focus on the experience. This is Oman, done with depth.
