Few Sri Lankan hotels can rival this luxury retreat’s setting, perched on a headland above Weligama Bay jutting over the southern coast, just 30 minutes from historic Galle.
When you stand at the tip of the cape, there’s nothing standing in your way between Sri Lanka and the south pole.
Beyond its panoramic ocean views — best enjoyed from the crescent-shaped infinity pool — Cape Weligama is a fantastic hotel with spacious, terracotta-roofed villas and plenty of ways to relax or set out to explore, from the Sanctuary Spa to going whale watching.
Its sense of space and slick service makes it a great fit for families, while couples will appreciate the seclusion and romantic setting.
For dining, The Atlas serves fresh, breezy lunches, Tableau offers a more refined fine-dining experience, and the newly opened The Cove beach bar is a welcome latest addition.
In true Relais & Châteaux style, experience is at the heart of Cape Weligama, from private butlers and excellent service to an array of fun activities. Take your pick between kayaking, private cruises, fishing, dolphin watching, or exploring cinnamon plantation trails. Back at base, make use of the pools, play beach tennis or pétanque or settle in for a soothing spa treatment.
The Rooms
There are just over 20 villas and 16 suites here.
Ranging from spacious one-bedroom suites to sprawling two-storey residences ideal for families, they are are light and airy, with warm wooden furnishings, comfortable beds and sofas, and earthy hues offset by crisp white linens.
Bathrooms are spacious and tastefully decorated throughout with freestanding tubs. Villas come with a walk-in rain shower and even a steam room.
The villas are scattered around in groups of three or four within their own lush watte (garden), each sharing a private infinity pool — with the spectacular main pool and its sweeping ocean views just a short stroll away.
