Depart your home country for your flight to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a fantastic destination for groups of friends and family, whether it’s two families travelling together, a multigenerational group, or long-lost relatives reuniting from the UK and the Antipodes!
The destination offers something for all ages, complemented by unique accommodations perfect for these gatherings, from private villas to boutique hotels and tea bungalows, small enough to book exclusively.
Villas in Sri Lanka are typically exquisitely designed and offer ample space to unwind and connect. With separate bedrooms, spacious living areas, and outdoor spaces, usually with private pools and lush gardens, they provide privacy and exclusivity, perfect for bonding without interruptions. Most villas also have dedicated staff, including chefs and housekeepers, ensuring tailored dining experiences and excellent service.

Sri Lanka for Families & Friends
As with all our holidays, this itinerary is just a starting point. We will create a bespoke package which will be completely unique for you.

Day 1
Your adventure begins
Days 2 - 3
Rosyth Estate House
Upon arrival, meet your chauffeur-guide, and you’ll transfer to Rosyth Estate House. Rosyth is a lovingly restored planter’s bungalow that retains its private house feel in the countryside between Colombo and Kandy. You won’t necessarily have sole use here (as Rosyth has 10 rooms), but rooms can be connected to create your own space.
This is a lovely spot to begin the trip. You can explore the estate and the local tea factory, chill by the pool, or take in the hill country views.

Days 4 - 6
The Hill Country
Travel down to Kandy and board the morning train through the hills towards Ella. It is arguably one of the prettiest journeys in the world. Upon arrival, your driver will take you to AMBA Tea Estate, a unique social enterprise in the hills.
Clove Tree House at AMBA is a 1930s bungalow with a lounge, dining room, terrace, and garden. It has a family suite and 2 twin rooms. Though perhaps a little more simple than the other accommodation included in the trip, this is a great social enterprise property where you can enjoy various activities, including a tea-making workshop, guided treks to hidden waterfalls, and Sri Lankan cooking classes using fresh, organic ingredients grown on-site.
During your stay, explore a scenic section of the Pekoe Trail with a knowledgeable guide. You’ll pass the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, surrounded by lush green tea plantations, and meet local tea pluckers and farmers who will share stories and insights into their craft.

Days 7 - 8
The Warden's House
Travel south to Kataragama and settle into a charming four-bedroom property near Yala National Park’s quieter Block 5.
Yala National Park’s Block 5 offers a quieter, more intimate safari experience than the more popular southern sections. It’s an excellent area for spotting elusive leopards, sloth bears, crocodiles, and various bird species. Your private game drives will allow you to move at your own pace, with expert guides tailoring the experience for your group.
Being so close to the park at the Warden’s House allows you to mix wildlife spotting with downtime. The nearby Kataragama Temple is also worth visiting.

Days 9 - 14
Kalukanda House
Depart Kataragama, head to the South Coast nr Weligama, and check into Kalukanda House.
With four bedrooms, a large pool, beautiful gardens, and plenty of space, the property is perfect for families travelling together and is fully staffed. Designed in a charming colonial style, the property has spacious living areas, creating an ideal retreat to relax and reconnect. An additional bonus on the grounds is the yoga shala, where yoga or other wellness experiences can be arranged in the lovely breezy space.
Just outside the villa is Jungle Beach, an excellent spot for swimming, surfing or watching the sunset at the local cafe with drinks. You’re very close to Mirissa where you can take whale-watching trips in the spring. Further afield, take a train or tuk-tuk to nearby attractions like Galle. Join the chef on a market visit and cooking lesson, or relax and enjoy delicious meals on the veranda. A peaceful, private base for family adventures!
From Kalukanda House, it’s typically about 2.5 hours to get to the airport, so it’s possible to head home if you only have 2 weeks to spare. However, we’ve included a suggested stay in Colombo for added inspiration.

Days 15 - 16
Ishq Colombo
Head to Colombo for your last stay and check in to a beautiful four-bed property in a leafy neighbourhood in the heart of the city. The interiors feature Moroccan-inspired artwork and rugs, contemporary Sri Lankan creations, and timeless antiques. Outside, lush gardens, terraces, and cascading vines create a tranquil and exotic ambience.
On a tuk-tuk tour, you’ll weave through Kotahena, where you’ll find remnants of the country’s colonial past. A walk through the streets with your guide will open up the city’s culture, giving you an insight into the influences that have shaped the city over the centuries.

Day 17
Fly home
Depart Sri Lanka on your flight back.

Galle, Sri Lanka
Lunuganga and Brief Gardens
Set beside tranquil Dedduwa Lake in Bentota, Lunuganga was once a colonial-era plantation. Geoffrey Bawa transformed it into a 15-acre garden estate that fuses tropical beauty with subtle modernist design—reflecting his signature “tropical modernism” philosophy. Pathways wind through symmetrical lawns, dense foliage and carefully framed vistas. Sculptures and hidden pavilions surprise at every turn.

Sigiriya, Sri Lanka
Pilikuttuwa Cave and Forest Temples
Spread across over 200 acres of countryside, the Pilikuttuwa site is one of Sri Lanka’s largest cave temple complexes. More than 100 natural caves and dripstone shelters dot the landscape, once offering refuge to Buddhist monks seeking solitude during the rainy season. Etched rock murals hint at the devotion of past centuries, while many shrines remain in quiet use by local worshippers today.

Galle, Sri Lanka
Market, Cooking and Galle Fort
Begin your day at a lively local fish market, where the catch of the day arrives fresh and flapping. With the help of your host, you’ll choose fish, vegetables and spices before heading to a nearby home kitchen for a hands-on cooking class.

Ella, Sri Lanka
Maligawila Standing Buddha
Tucked away in Uva Province’s Moneragala District, this 45-foot statue is the tallest free-standing Buddha in Sri Lanka. Carved from a single limestone boulder in the 6th or 7th century AD, it was commissioned by Prince Aggabodhi of the ancient Ruhunu Kingdom. Alongside it stands a 34-foot Bodhisattva figure, both part of a long-abandoned monastic site.

Galle, Sri Lanka
Essence of Galle
Galle is the beating heart of Sri Lanka’s south coast, where seafood markets buzz at dawn and the centuries-old Fort hides layers of history and life. This experience offers a window into its soul.
For those keen to venture beyond the Fort, there’s the option of a gentle cycling tour through nearby villages. Ride past checkerboard paddy fields and gurgling streams, stopping to try your hand at making “hoppers” – a much-loved Sri Lankan tea-time snack.

Colombo, Sri Lanka
Dilmah High Tea Experience
An absolute must for tea-lovers, a tour and gourmet high tea at the Dilmah Lounge in Colombo is one of the most in-depth and specialist tea experiences in Sri Lanka. The charming lounge is in the beautifully refurbished colonial-style Fertiliser Building just behind the Dutch Hospital. Dilmah Tea is an internationally renowned brand with decades of research into tea gastronomy and mixology. Visitors are invited to experiment with flavours, immerse themselves in the colourful traditions of tea culture and get acquainted with tea as never before. Make sure you don’t miss out on one of the Dilma Tea Lounge’s famous tea-inspired cocktails and snacks after your tour in the lovely outdoor area.

Galle, Sri Lanka
Galle Cycling, Boat Ride and Cooking Tour
Explore inland from Galle on this exciting morning tour by bike and boat finally culminating in a cooking lesson.
The boat ride is accompanied by a naturalist with a specialist knowledge of the plant, aquatic and birdlife around.
The cycle ride is very relaxed and you can go at your own pace, should you rather drive through the villages by tuk tuk this can also be arranged. It’s only a short journey to your cookery lesson which is led by a local villager. Try your hand at making hoppers and have them for your lunch – a delicious end to the first part of your day.

Colombo Wetlands
The 60-acre park was formally a wasteland before being transformed into a biodiversity study park in 2010, with artificial ponds and canals created to attract local wildlife. Now, the area is home to a myriad of butterflies, fish and reptiles and an excellent spot to see various migratory birds, depending on the time of year.
