Layana Resort and Spa, on the west coast of Koh Lanta Island in Krabi province, is a small, luxury hotel with good amenities, a lush tropical garden and access to a lovely quiet beach. Thai style buildings combine breezy spaciousness with an open, natural ambiance.
The resorts 57 rooms are luxuriously appointed and spacious. There are three types of room, spread in an equilateral pattern on either side of the central garden; Garden Pavilions (located around the lawn), Beach Suites (slightly larger, single storey and on the beach) and Ocean Deluxe Suites (two storey buildings on the beach with living rooms and private veranda). All rooms have bathtubs, separate showers, private balcony and DVD players. The suites have additional outdoor rain showers.
A beautiful swimming pool runs into the garden from the beach, with sea views, there is also a wellness pool. The resort has its own water sports centre, offering scuba diving, kayaking, snorkelling and other water based activities. Island tours can be arranged, with jungle trekking, caving and elephant trekking all possible within half an hour’s drive. Boat trips to stunning nearby islands also make for a great day out and of course there is excellent diving from Koh Lanta.
The resort has its own spa, with indoor and outdoor treatment rooms. Saunas, Jacuzzi, massage, facials and body treatments are offered on a single or spa package basis. Layana has a formal restaurant and laid back beach bar and cafe. There is an additional lounge around the pool and a well-stocked library with free internet access.
Layana is accessible by road and sea. During the peak season (November - April) the resort operates a private speedboat transfer from Krabi airport which should take no more than one hour.
Luxury - Luxury hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A luxury hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.

Really enjoyed the food tour. It took us to a part of Bangkok that we would never have visited. We visited 5 restaurants, some of which you would probably dismiss out of hand and carry on walking past from their appearance. They were also very clued up on local knowledge so it was a much a cultural tour as food tour.
