Thailand, North and East
Info : Phu-Chaisai
Phu Chaisai Resort and Spa is a delightful creation in the hills of northern Thailand. Perched on the hillside amidst acres of private grounds, this distinctively Thai property is an ideal getaway, offering both privacy and adventure/exploration.
The resorts thatched villas are constructed in sustainable and contemporary eco style, beautifully fusing natural and conventional building materials. The widespread and creative use of bamboo and clay give a charming, romantic edge.
The villas categories include Superior, Deluxe and Executive Cottages, Honeymoon Suites and Pool Villas. All rooms have large, comfortable living areas, with indoor and outdoor sofas and stunning views across the rolling hills of the north. Simplicity is the overall approach, with a sprinkling of delightful artistic touches, giving each villa a unique charm and highly relaxing atmosphere.
The resort is a great place to unwind and take your foot off the pedal. The central restaurant has indoor and outdoor, rooftop seating. The bar area is sumptuously decorated with artworks, cushioned hammocks and lounge seating. Open fires warm cooler evenings as subtle lamps illuminate the night sky. A cosy library and screening room is ideal for catching a movie or reading. The in-house spa has a variety of treatments, all with views! There is also a pottery workshop where guests can create their own works to add to the resorts many unusual statues.
For guests seeking more adventure and exploration, Phu Chaisai is great place to be active. The resort is a great base for hiking and trekking in the region. Mountain biking, horse riding and golf are also possible within the local area. River rafting, trips to the golden triangle and visits to the Mai Sai border can be arranged through the resort.
It is rare to find a resort that exudes such individual character and flair. The owner, an interior designer who swapped her life in Bangkok for one in the mountains, has created a special place where design, architecture and the natural surroundings blend with great effect. A no rules approach has allowed a magical degree of eccentricity to be expressed. The staff are laid back and personable.
Phu Chaisai is a memorable place, offering great value for money, where attention to detail and a focus on total relaxation charm guests time and time again.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.

The Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok was superb and we couldn’t fault it. Wonderful service, friendly and helpful staff, amazing breakfast buffets, what more could you ask for?
