Can Gio Biosphere Reserve is located in the coastal district southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, covering an area of 75,740 hectares and dominated by mangroves - including both salt water and brackish water species. The mangroves in Can Gio have a high biodiversity with more than 200 species of fauna and 52 species of flora. The effect of the wars on these ecosystems has been devastating but enormous efforts have been made by local people to rehabilitate the mangroves. Today it has become one of the most extensive sites of rehabilitated mangroves in the world.
After taking a thrilling eco-adventure speedboat tour through scenic canals to the mangrove forests, you will enter the famous Mekong Delta region and stop at a local riverside market where you can absorb all the colours, sounds and aromas of this amazingly fertile region.
After a short stay we swap the leafy palms and coconut trees of the Mekong for a dusky twilight world surrounded by towering mangrove trees. Look out for villagers hand-knotting nets before spreading them out to dry in the sun at a local fishing hamlet. Spot monkeys and gibbons swinging through the trees at Vam Sat. Feed the crocodiles at the crocodile reserve and paddle around the still waters of the Bat Lagoon in a small wooden boat.
A breakfast of pastries, fresh fruits and Vietnamese coffee will be served as you depart Saigon and Vietnamese specialities will be served for lunch.
