The Vietage Train , Quy Nhon

The Vietage Carriage is a luxury rail car for a maximum of 12 passengers that is added onto the train travelling between Danang (nr Hoi An) and the beaches of Quy Nhon. A 300 km, 6-hour journey that allows passengers to embrace the romance of old-school rail travel and connect the two destinations in style.

The best direction to travel is south, departing from Hoi An at 8 am and allowing you to take in the views of coastal Vietnam. And what views they are. You might catch sight of the first capital city of the Hindu Champa Kingdom; the coastal city of Quáng Ngãi, home to the Long Wall of Vietnam; or the An Khe Lake, considered the cradle of Sa Huynh culture. 

When not distracted by the views outside, there is a sit-up bar, six private booths and a massage room where every guest gets a complimentary head and shoulder rub. That’s right, a massage room. A decadent three-course meal and free-flowing drinks are included too. 

If you get sleepy, the seats transform into beds. There are board games, free wifi and ice cream for kids. All this luxury may sound a bit much, but we didn’t find it stuffy at all. Staff are friendly and down-to-earth, and the whole enjoyable experience flies by.

In the other direction, the train leaves Quy Nhon at 6 pm and arrives in Hoi An at 12.30 am which may be a little late for some. Though the evening route encourages a sociable atmosphere, you'll arrive in Hoi An with a full belly and at least a few new friends!
