At ETG, we encourage travellers to do things differently, which can be tricky in Vietnam considering good-quality accommodation beyond the well-trodden route is fairly limited. So, we (literally) jumped for joy when Zannier Bai San Ho opened. It’s in a seriously beautiful, remote location, and we’re huge fans of its sister property Phum Baitang in Cambodia.
The high-end hotel and its 73 villas are scattered across 250 acres, surrounded by jungle-clad hills, lush rice paddies and a half-mile beach in Phu Yen near Quy Nhon on the Central Coast.
All the villas are built from reclaimed timber and feature bamboo furniture and top-quality soft furnishings - many have private pools. The whole resort has been created carefully with a genuine commitment to sustainability.
There's plenty to keep you busy, from snorkelling and water sports to tennis or yoga and lots of local excursions. But we don't blame you if you want to simply relax by the infinity pool with panoramic views or book yourself in at the soothing spa (which offers a range of signature treatments). You'll have a choice of three restaurants, from traditional Vietnamese and international dishes to fabulous fish barbeques near the beach. The remarkable range of activities makes this a great option for families, (and there's also a kids club for 2-12-year-olds).
Zannier Bai San Ho is on the Central Coast partway between Nha Trang and Hoi An, about an hour south of Quy Nhon, reachable in an hour by plane from either Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. We recommend travelling down by train from Hoi An and relaxing here towards the end of your bespoke trip through the whole country.
All in all, Zannier Bai San Ho offers a terrific 'barefoot-luxury' beach experience in an unspoilt spot that slots neatly into a tour of Vietnam.
