Kulu Safaris

Info : Kulu Safaris

Waking up in the heart of a National Park is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Glimpses of the sun peek out from the surface of the lake, the birds begin to chatter over the scrubland, and the deer frolic a short distance away. Everything is right in the world.

What makes Kulu Safaris stand out is that they understand, the best way to appreciate Yala National Park is to get right into the heart of the place and stay there. Surrounded by incredible flora and fauna of all shapes and sizes, you can see for yourself how unique the landscape is, and how varied and colourful birdlife can be.

Yala is no lazy stroll through the park, instead, it is wild, rough, uninhabited, and very exciting. Keep calm and be patient: you will be rewarded on an unforgettable Kulu Safari. The safari vehicles are modified Land Cruisers, imported from South Africa along with top class safari tents. There are comfy camp beds and loads of space, plenty of hanger and drawer storage for clothes, and even a washbasin in the tents. Guests can expect decent toilets and hot and cold showers. Gorgeous sunsets complement your evening meals, prepared in the clever mobile kitchen.

Most impressive are the knowledgable guides. With a wealth of information, a friendly outlook, and sheer enthusiasm for the area, they are vastly more helpful than the average day trip guide. Activities and excursions are well paced, with plenty of time for navel gazing, or at least, the quiet appreciation of your surroundings on the morning and evening safari drives. Leopard and elephant spotting opportunities are excellent, and even the enigmatic sloth bear makes an appearance now and then.

Entrance fees, meals, drinks, and equipment are all included, making this two day safari excellent value for money. This weary traveller had a truly memorable experience watching two enormous eagles battle for their territory while I was bathing in the sea. What a moment - made possible by Kulu Safaris’ unique approach to the magnificent wildlife in Yala National Park.

Eco/Outdoors/Homestay - This category covers gorgeous eco lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps, very basic homestays and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level – but a guest staying at any place in this categorisation must read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what they are letting themselves in for!

Guest Comments for Kulu Safaris

Kulu Safaris - we're not safari people but had a great two days - saw leopards and enjoyed the camp experience

Camping in Uda Walawe was a fantastic experience and we were exceptionally well looked after by Kulu Safaris. A definite must for any visitor! I don't think we'll ever get our kids to do 'normal' camping again!

the safari was fab although they went more western with their suppers which actually was fine after 2 weeks of curries and I think Mike needed a little break from curry!

We cannot praise enough the guys at Kulu Safaris, they were a great team and the two days there were very special.

The safari was just amazing and incredibly well thought out, set up and such fun. Mark is such a great guy and so enthusiastic, I couldn't recommend it highly enough

We had a fantastic holiday! The Victoria was wonderful and the Kulu Safari was amazing

Customer Feedback
This was an excellently organised, tailor-made trip. We stayed in friendly hotels in a number of different locations, including a mud house in the jungle, beside a lake and in the hills among the tea plantations. We had a wonderful guide/driver and visited some amazing temples, spectacular world heritage sites, lovely villages and ate delicious, freshly harvested and cooked local food. It was a fabulous holiday!
