Sri Lanka, Sigiriya, Cultural Triangle
Climbing Sigiriya and Cycling Tour
Visitors to Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle visit or climb Sigiriya Rock. This trip will give you an alternative perspective on the region as you explore the rock itself followed by a cycle ride around the surrounding countryside that lies in its shadow.
An early start is the best way to avoid the crowds, so you’ll set off at sunrise and begin your ascent of the rock fortress at 7am. Although the pathway is steep, the journey is almost as remarkable as the destination as you climb past intricate frescoes, a mirrored wall, and the iconic Lion Gate. Once at the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
After descending the rock and recharging with some lunch, you’ll begin your bicycle ride around the countryside and villages. You’ll take in sights usually unseen, exploring a nearby village and ancient ruins, all barely touched by tourism. Different viewpoints along the route will each cast different images of Sigiriya. Finally, hop on a boat and enjoy some snacks as the sun sets behind the great rock, rewarding you with incredible views of both Sigiriya and nearby Pidurangala Rock.
