The West Coast, Sri Lanka, Colombo & around
Colombo Wetlands
Take a trip outside the bustling centre of Colombo to the urban wetland area of Diyasaru Park.
The 60-acre park was formally a wasteland before being transformed into a biodiversity study park in 2010, with artificial ponds and canals created to attract local wildlife. Now, the area is home to a myriad of butterflies, fish and reptiles and an excellent spot to see various migratory birds, depending on the time of year.
A trip to Diyasaru Park with a local naturalist is a great way to get out of the city and into nature with the promise of seeing a rich range of wildlife. If the park isn’t enough to satisfy your wildlife itch, an additional visit to the nearby Thalangama Wetland can be arranged at no extra cost.
