Tea, Trains & Teardrop Hotels
Take Sri Lanka slowly. Sleepy trains, off-the-beaten-track hill walking and glorious heritage hotels.
The beautiful and boutique Fort Bazaar opened following the success of its sister hotel The Wallawwa near Colombo (a property that’s always been popular with Experience Travel Group guests).
The hotel's location, right in the heart of atmospheric Galle Fort (a UNESCO world heritage site), allows you to immerse yourself in the heritage of the 17th-centuryfortress easily. As an old merchant's home, it is full of history and a reminder of a bygone era of colonial wealth, with a Middle Eastern vibe. After a day exploring, the hotel offers facilities such as a spa, cinema and gourmet restaurant to retreat to. Contemporary and vibrant, Middle Eastern food, as well as modern versions of Sri Lanka's traditional cuisine, are served at the Church Street Social restaurant.
There are just 18 rooms and suites here and some connect to form family suites. Fit with four poster-beds, they are light, airy and modern. The three upper suites have an additional lounge area, dressing room, bathtub and great views over the fort.
Superior - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, in terms of character, guest experience or facilities too.
