Tucked away in a 25-acre coconut estate on Sri Lanka's less-visited East Coast, Kalkudah Beach House is a hidden gem offering a private experience in an idyllic location.
The property consists of two villas - the three-bedroom Main House and the two-bedroom Palm Villa, both centred around the 22-metre swimming pool and with direct beach access via the garden. Each room is beach-facing and can be rented either individually, by the villa, or as the whole property. Living spaces and bedrooms are designed to be bright and spacious, with high ceilings and oversized windows throughout. When you're not relaxing by the pool or enjoying the 12km of soft, golden sand beach, you can add some friendly competition to your stay with a game of pool, petanque, or croquet.
Despite the seemingly remote location, there's still plenty to do in the area. Snorkel in nearby bays, or explore the historic Dutch Fort in Batticaloa. Join a deep-sea fishing trip from Pasikuda or visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Polonnaruwa, just a 1.5-hour drive away. However active you decide to be (or not be), the location has you covered.
Thanks to its secluded setting, thoughtful design, and the array of activities on offer, Kalkudah Beach House is a rare find on the East Coast and works for couples, families, or groups. The perfect place for some uninterrupted relaxation.
Villa - The 'Villa' is a similar concept to the 'holiday home' in Europe, with some key differences. Our villas in Asia are always fully staffed with cooking and service provided for you. Staff will generally cook meals to your specification and purchase food and drink for you at cost price. They are generally pretty smart and luxurious too and feel in many ways like a small private hotel. Nonetheless, your villa is still effectively a home and therefore you cannot expect the same level of training, English speaking or slickness that you might expect from a hotel at a similar cost. As the owners are not generally holiday professionals we cannot guarantee the quality of a villa matches expectations in a way we can with hotels. That said, the personal local touch means villas are generally much more friendly and interactive than hotels and have much to recommend them. The privacy and space makes them wonderful for families, groups of friends or couples looking for privacy and relaxation.
